| Jim Mckay | i have a backhoe with a lucas injection pump that is leaking fuel from between the main pump housing and the round section at the end that the injection lines attach to . i cant find any info or exploded diagrams to show what kind of seal needs replaced or how to safely separate the two sections . any help ? thanks - Jim |
| Deewight | Jim: Very rare to have that pump leak in that area. Are you sure it's not one of the banjo bolts spraying fuel at that area. Make sure area is clean and dry, (brake cleaner and lots of air). Get a mirror and have someone start it up while you watch. If it is indeed leaking where you think it is, pump will have to go to injection shop. |
| Jim Mckay | definetly coming from the housing . i removed the throttle section fron the top of the pump and when you blow compressed air at the leak it bubbles right between the two section inside the pump. you can see this area clearly with the throttle section off. i have the skills and experience to repair my self , i would just like some info on the pump before i take it apart and have to wait for parts i could have ordered ahead . also easier to know if and how the two secions are timed befor separating. |
| Lorraine Hillman | I have that same leak. I replaced all my banjo bolt washers and the leak drips about every 10 secs. The same as before I changed the washers. On another post some one takked about an o ring seal between the high and low pressure sides. Could that be the seal and is user servicable? |
| Paul Taylor | I have the same pump Lucas CAV I had all the seals destroyed in an engine fire and had to dismantle it to replace them. I found a manual for the pump. I have emailed the manual to you. If you feel confident to dismantle it and replace the seals you should be able to buy a seal kit from a diesel shop for around $50 Let me know if you need any further help |
| Robert Smith | I have a 1998 Case 570 LXT loader-landscaper with the lucas pump on the 3.9 liter cummins 4-cyl. Recently the pump began a slow constant leak from the throttle control lever that is verticle comming out of the top of the pump and hooks to the foot throttle on the platform. Paul could you e-mail me the manual also to , I took the lever off thinking I would find an easy seal to replace under the lever or that I would find the shaft bushing worn..which would have damaged the seal..but the shaft is tight as might be expected with 3500 hours on the machine..anyone know if I can replace that shaft seal without taking the pump off the machine...I don,t have access to a Case service manual to describe the re installation of the pump |

| PETER FIASCONARO | I have a 1960 massey ferguson 65 with a lucas cav pump. The pump is leaking from a small plate on the bottom of the pump. The plate is held by a banjo bolt.I removed the plate and replaced all of the o-rings. however leak seems to be coming from the gasket between the pump and this plate. I tried to make a gasket but it just keeps leaking. any suggestions. |

| Terry Presnal | Be careful doing this oring replacement. It looks super simple and it was but now the dang thing will not run but when the thrtottle is held wide open and then it will only idle. If you move the trottle shaft back towards idle it cuts off. I took pictures of everything before i took it apart and put it together just like it came off. I don't know what the issue is. Im pulling my hair out with this one. |

| Eamonn | ok going to try and help people who cant get fuel to the injectors, some of the posts above , I had the same problem on a ford 3600, similer pumps on ford 2000, 2600, 3000, 36000, 4000, 4600, and on Massey Ferguson, first check timing on tractor, it will give you reading of -12 to +12 on 3600 the setting is zero,setting/timing can be found on were pump is attached to tractor, now you can remove pump, when pump is off remove top of pump carefully there is a spring holding the top and bottom together, take note what holes your spring is in as it has to go back exactly as it was, to clean inside metering valve I used a toothbrush and wd40, and carbarater fluid, there will be a lot of grim in there free up metering valve,I did buy a new gasket,was told a gsket sealant would do I did not like that option,now just but the whole lot back together, it took me 5 hours but I was working slow making sure every thing was right as I went along, loosen injector and bleed screw, thighten bleed screw when diesel appears, could take a few mins before diesel reaches injector, hope this helps some body, |

| Mac | My Lucas CAV was leaking around the cut off valve. After removing the top and replacing the O rings, the cut off will not work. The little tit is in the slot on the cut off arm, but it only revs up when it is turned either way. Seems like it is not able to idle down past 1000 rpm. I am wondering if maybe I have somehow messed up the metering valve, or just not put it back together correctly. It would be easy to fat finger that little job. Any ideas/ help out there? |

| johnathan pearse | Just to advise all people who are having throttle body shaft fuel leaks, DONT LEAVE IT FOR TOO LONG(mine snapped as i didnt catch it in time and it IS NOT REPLACEABLE so BE CAREFULL WHEN REMOVING THROTTLE BODY NUT,mine snapped so had to remove the top shaft from inside the pump(at which point, i dropped the small 6mm nut from the shaft inside the pump), I am unsure how much damage could be done if started. Any feedback/advice would be appreciated. BEWARE, PART IS NOT REPLACEABLE, Replacement pump will be required.. Could use a copy of the lucas manual if anyone has on |

| Morrie | I had fuel to the pump but nothing beyond that. Today the mechanic pulled the top off the pump and found that the shutoff was jammed. It is an old unit, around 1975 and the pump was full of corrosion. He cleaned it out, including removing surface rust from the flat lever on the shutoff and put it together. It took a couple of goes to get it cleared. He explained that there was a risk with breaking the gasket when doing this, but it turned out ok. Now it is running well. |
