Error: Acrobat PDFMaker needs to save the file before continuing Whenever I try to make a PDF from an Excel 2013 file, via either the 'Save as PF' option or the Export option, I get the message 'Acrobat PDFMaker needs to save the file before continuing. I just installed Adobe Acrobat 8. I am running Vista. When I am trying to create a PDF file, from multiple PDFs or non-PDF files, I get the error, 'Missing PDFMaker files. Do you want to run the installer in repair mode?' I choose YEs, and it downloads something and then restarts, but it still does not work. Same thing happens every time.

  1. How are you creating a PDF from your Excel document? Are you using the Adobe PDFMaker Plugin or are you creating it from File > Save As > PDF option?

  2. Have you installed Adobe PDFMaker plug-in or Adobe Acrobat/Adobe Reader?

In case you are using the Adobe PDFMaker plug-in then this issue may be linked to a corrupt installation of Adobe PDFMaker plug-in. To resolve this issue you may uninstall the Adobe PDFMaker plug-in and start using the File > Save As > PDF option (Click on Save as Type drop-down box and select PDF) for creating PDFs from Office documents/spreadsheets. To uninstall the Adobe PDFMaker plug-in follow these steps. Check in Programs and Features (Start > Control Panel > Programs and/or Programs and Features) and see if you have Adobe PDF Maker installed. If yes uninstall the Adobe PDF Maker and check if the issue resolves. To uninstall it right-click on the Adobe PDFMaker plug-in and click on Uninstall or Change > Uninstall.
